matariki

Matariki is a cluster of seven sister stars that appear in the sky at late May or early June. They were given the job to represent the Maori new year so when you see Matariki in the sky that means its the start of the Maori new year.

We did persuasive argument writing about why Matariki should have a public holiday and we did reading about it and comprehension questions that gave me the decision  if I wanted matariki to have a public holiday or not but I think it should.

We did this piece of writing to tell people that Matariki should have a public holiday and for the people who really care about matariki can celebrate it. And matariki is a time to learn about each other and their cultures and share stories about Matariki history. So Matariki is a really special time for some people so that is why I think Matariki should have a public holiday.

Learning about Matariki made me feel in the middle of happy and sad like we celebrate other celebrations that don't mean that much to New Zealand for an example we celebrate the queens birthday and it doesn't mean that much to New Zealand when Matariki does mean a lot to some people     here. So I think Matariki should have its own public holiday.

The Possum Problem

We created an animation to share a message about an environmental issue in NZ and to give people some ideas on how to help.  I chose to make mine about the possum problem because we read some articles about how bad the possum population is and they are eating all of our trees.  You could help by buying a humane trap to get rid of them.
