A long long time ago, soldiers were getting ready for war and putting on their khaki swampy uniforms. They polished and polished their buttons until they shone brightly. The buttons on the khaki uniforms had a big, powerful impact to the soldiers. A button was just like a human it could sense the fear the soldiers felt and the danger that they were in. It felt their heart pound and pound and how fast it was racing. The buttons made the soldiers feel proud and good about themselves because they shone brightly on their uniforms. The war came to an end and the soldiers returned home, they unpacked and put their uniforms in their wardrobe tucked away. Every year on the 25th of April they take their uniforms out of their wardrobe and wear them to the dawn parade. The soldiers marched down the path with pride but also a little hesitation. When they arrive back at home they tuck their uniforms back in their wardrobe for another year. The khaki uniform went in and out of the wardrobe but then stopped and stayed in. Ella's great-granddad was a very lucky man. There was a dent in 1 of the buttons that Ella was looking at. She asked her mum why it was their and she said " a piece of shell hit great granddad and it was aiming right for the chest but then rebounded of the button. " great granddad was a very lucky man". "indeed he made it out with out even a scratch".Ella asked her mum if she could keep the buttons and she did. she very carefully cut the buttons off the uniform then polished them until they gleamed. She found some ribbon and gently sewed the buttons onto it and put the one with the dent in the middle. She tied the ribbon together to make a neck less and wore it to the dawn parade.
